Rollout Awning Anchor Kit
WHY YOU NEED THIS KIT
Protect Your Investment: Rollout Awnings are expensive. Wind damage from inadequate Tie Downs can destroy your awning in minutes.
Peace of Mind: Sleep soundly knowing your awning is properly secured, even in unexpected weather changes.
Versatile Performance: Works in challenging conditions where standard tent pegs fail:
- Extreme Hard Packed Terrain.
- Soft, muddy ground - Big Dog Screw in Pegs™ upgrade recommended.
- Beach Sand - Sand Dog Screw in Pegs® upgrade recommended.
- No need to use Anchor Plate when on the beach.
Why the strange, shaped peg hole?
It’s to allow a Big Dog Screw in Peg™ to be used if you encounter very soft conditions!
THERE ARE 2 WAYS TO USE YOUR ROLLOUT AWNING ANCHOR KIT:
1. If standing the awning legs vertically:
- Unroll your awning.
- Lock in bracing arm.
- Adjust awning to desired height.
- Detach awning leg and stand vertically.
- Lift the leg slightly and place an anchor plate over the connector bar on the foot of the awning leg with the longer side facing away from the caravan.
- Drive a Ground Dog Screw in Peg® with Wing Collar through each hole on both sides of the awning leg stopping to allow enough room to attach the safety Spring with Tie Down Strap.
- Complete Driving in the Ground Dog Screw in Peg®.
- Connect the long piece of the Tie Down Strap to the shorter piece and tighten making sure the Safety Spring is not distorted. (If the safety spring is elongated, it has been pulled too tight)
- If standing both legs, repeat on the other end and adjust as necessary.
- In case of bad weather, a Tie Down Strap can be added for extra security.
2. If leaving the awning legs attached:
- Attach the longer piece of the tie down Strap to the Safety Spring by passing the loop end through either end of the Safety Spring then place the other end of the strap through the loop and pull through.
- Unroll your awning, before raising, attach the smaller piece of the tiedown strap to each end of the barrel by placing it around the awning barrel and pass the Cam Buckle through the loop on the other end.
- Raise the awning to the desired height.
- Position the Ground Dog Peg with Hook Collar around a metre Infront if the vertical line of the barrel.
- Drive in the Ground Dog stopping to allow enough space to attach the Safety Spring.
- Attach the Safety Spring and finish driving in the Peg.
- Attach the Strap Retaining Clip to the longer piece of strap, it will sit under the Cam Buckle once the Strap is fed through.
- Connect both pieces of the Tie Down Strap and tighten, stop when the Safety Spring starts to stretch. (do not stretch the Safety Spring out of shape). Secure the loose end of the tie down strap in the retaining clip.
IMPORTANT: Ground Dog Screw in Pegs® have LEFT-HAND THREAD - turn COUNTER-CLOCKWISE to install!
This design creates a flush, low-profile setup that minimizes trip hazards while maximizing stability.
OPERATING TIPS
Weather Considerations:
- Side Awnings are considered a sunshade, suitable only in light winds.
- Your Awning is a big investment, don’t believe anyone that tells you that you don’t have to anchor it.
- Strong winds expected: Your Awning is just like a big sail just waiting for the wind the get under it, be ready to retract your Awning to avoid damage.
Ground Conditions:
- Hard Rocky ground: use Tuff Dog Screw in Pegs™.
- Soft/muddy ground: Upgrade to Big Dog Screw in Pegs™.
- Beach: Upgrade to Sand Dog Screw in Pegs®.
- No need to use Anchor Plate when on the beach.
TROUBLESHOOTING
Peg won't go in: Check you're turning counterclockwise. Ensure adequate downward pressure. Try alternate location if ground is too hard or predrill hole using a 12mm masonry bit.
Strap too tight/loose: Adjust tension gradually. Remember awning needs some flexibility in wind.
Peg pulling out: Ground conditions are too soft for Tuff Dogs, Use Big Dogs.
Awning stress: Reduce strap tension, safety springs should not be distorted.
Remember: Proper installation and appropriate use will ensure years of reliable awning security and peace of mind on your adventures.
